Recently I watched one of the best LDS Movies, 17 Miracles, for the first time and I was touched by the faith those pioneers exercised with every step they took. They were coming to Zion to be free to worship as they wanted, to receive the blessings of the temple, to follow the Prophet and join with the other Saints. We are so blessed in our day to have all these blessings at our finger tips. Living in Utah, I have at least 5 temples within less than an hour’s drive. Three are within 5-20 minutes away from me. When I think of the Saints who walked across the plains for all those miles just to be able to go to the temple I am humbled at how blessed we are today. I can go to the internet or cable TV on demand to see and listen to the Prophet and other leaders speak. Each week I can go to church and attend various activities and join with the Saints around me with a minimum amount of effort.
In the face of obvious difficulties and trials, the pioneers pressed forward with seemingly unshakeable faith. Is our faith that strong? When the storms of life come will we stand firm or capsize under pressure? I know many people today who are facing daunting challenges with health, finances, and many other trials. I am amazed as I watch them face their adversities with as much faith and courage as did the pioneers. I resolve to be more grateful for the blessings we have so close around us, to take more advantage of them and to stand firm as did the pioneers. Will you join me?
